This week, I had a corporate workshop enquiry from an accounting firm.
What were they looking for?
Storytelling skills.
Huh? For accountants?
Yep!
The partners of the firm are so often presenting technical data or dull numbers at events and conferences, and were struggling to keep their audiences engaged, let alone convert them to become clients.
Storytelling is not just for actors or authors.
It’s for anyone who needs to build trust in relationships, whether it’s on a sales call, social media, or from the stage.
But, how?
Well, there are many ingredients of engaging storytelling, but one simple one is this: Don’t just summarise an event, use DIALOGUE to make the story come to life.
❌ Don’t say: She was so shocked at what I did
✅ Say: She turned to me with wide eyes and shouted “What have you done?”
❌ Don’t say: Everyone was happy at dinner
✅ Say: The sound of laugher filled the dinner room as people exclaimed “Cheers!”, “To another successful year!”, “Happy Holidays!”
❌ Don’t say: There was a scary man looking at me
✅ Say: His eyes glistened as he smirked, and said between his teeth “Why hello, what are you doing?”
Want to captivate anyone you talk to?
