This week, we got Ring (The doorbell) installed on our front door!

I was so excited, because I reference Ring all the time in my workshops.
The story of the company is this:
The founder, Jamie Siminoff went onto Shark Tank in 2013, but couldn’t get any investors to give him money for his product.
Turns out this product went on to be acquired by Amazon.com for over $1 billion, just a few years later in 2018.
And now, Ring is the most successful doorbell brand in the world.
But back then, Jamie’s pitch was weak.
During his Shark Tank pitch, his voice was uncertain. H looked uncomfortable. His random pauses and deep swallowing gave away his nervousness.
Actual competence is not equal to perceived competence.
We can be the most qualified or knowledgeable person in the room, but people will only perceive us at the level that we’re able to *convey* our authority.
And I get it, it’s silly that we have to perform or prove ourselves to others.
But this is the nature of human interaction.
Therefore, our success is highly dependent on our ability to impress in an interview, influence in a sales call, or showcase competence in a negotiation.
If you believe that you are worth more than what you’re being paid, or that your speaking causes you to be overlooked for opportunities, I’ve got something for you!
