Let me tell you a story…
Last year, I was flown interstate twice in two days for separate speaking events.
For the first gig, I was up at 3am for the first flight out of Melbourne to Sydney, so I could check in to my accommodation to rest before my 2pm speaking timeslot.
I board the plane unshowered, sans makeup, hair undone, and in casual clothes.
But upon landing in Sydney, it turns out a speaker had called in sick for the morning timeslot at a separate event.
So, with 60 minutes notice, I was called upon to step in and speak at the morning event in addition to my afternoon gig.
…There goes my non-negotiable time to rest and prepare for the afternoon event.
I was driven straight from the airport to the venue for a 9am start, so I got changed in the toilet of a service station on the way there, and I did my makeup halfway through a session in the public bathroom.
After finishing at the first event, I go straight to the second event of the day to speak for my main slot.
It’s 43 degrees and I’m exhausted. I feel dirty, and out of it. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt so tired before.
Then the next day, I do it again, and hop on a plane for my next engagement in another state.
It was a huge week. And at the same time, it was a ‘normal’ week.
This was the worst case scenario, but there’s still a chance it could happen.
Therefore, it’s to be expected in the life of a speaker.
It’s to be expected as a business owner.
It’s to be expected when we grow our brand.
To be worthy of our dreams, we HAVE to be willing to take the hardest path to get there.
And if we’re unwilling, then maybe we aren’t worthy of our dreams.
Because when it comes to our dreams, the hardest path IS the least that is guaranteed.
When have you battled the ‘worst case scenario’ and come out WORTHY on the other side?
