Reminder: We aren’t just born with genes for good conversation. It’s something we can all achieve with a bit of intention!
Here’s the thing: Good conversation is a science!
People are wired to enjoy certain things, and get bored by other things.
So, once we learn the rules for great conversation, who’s to say we can’t become the most memorable person in the room?
Do not ask these questions:
❌ What do you do? (Too boring and repetitive)
❌ How are you? (Leads to a dead end)
❌ The weather is so hot/cold, isn’t it? (Let’s skip the small talk, shall we?)
❌ Been busy lately? (Small talk alert)
Instead, ask:
✅ What’s been the highlight of your week so far? (Get them thinking and reflecting at a deeper level)
✅ What’s the most interesting conversation that you’ve gotten from this event so far? (You’ll get to the level of discussing concepts, which is fresh and thought provoking)
✅ *Commenting on something they’re wearing* Oh I love this brand too!! What made you get this piece in particular? (Make them feel good and bond over something you have in common)
